The Great British Bake Off Musical to transfer to the Noel Coward Theatre in London

The producers of The Great British Bake Off Musical have announced that the show is to transfer into the West End.

The Great British Bake Off Musical will run at the Noel Coward Theatre in London for 12 weeks only, from 25 February to 13 May 2023.

The show had a successful run in the Summer at the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham, and there were high hopes that the new musical would transfer.

Set to appear in the show are John Owen-Jones (Les Misèrables, The Phantom of the Opera), reprising his role as silver-fox judge Phil Hollinghurst. Joining him will be Scott Paige (The Addams Family) as a presenter.

Also appearing as the Bake Off contestants are: Claire Moore (Mary Poppins), Charlotte Wakefield (The Boy In The Dress), Damian Humbley (Merrily We Roll Along), Jay Saighal (Hedda Gabler), Michael Cahill (Martin Guerre) and, making his West End debut, Aharon Rayner. More cast will be announced soon.

The Great British Bake Off Musical is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh and designed by Alice Power, and features an original score, with songs written by award-winning duo Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾; Red Riding Hood).

Creative Director and Executive Producer Richard McKerrow said in a press statement that: “Working on this new Bake Off musical with Mark, and the fantastic team of creatives, cast and crew, has been a brilliant experience and thanks to this dedicated team I really hope we have created a musical that celebrates the spirit of the television show and will bring tears and laughter to a wide audience”.

Producer Mark Goucher said: “Having won over the Cheltenham audience, I’m so thrilled that this talented creative team and cast are getting this opportunity to bring this new musical to the audiences of the West End. If you are a fan of the iconic Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 you will love it, and if you’ve never watched Great British Bake Off, you’ll be sure to tune in after seeing this.”

Prue Leith said: “I am thrilled to bits that The Great British Bake Off Musical is going to the West End. It is an uplifting, funny, heartfelt story, which will have you singing and dancing out of the theatre with a huge smile. A theatrical sweet treat. Just what we need right now.”

This brand new musical follows eight amateur baking contestants as they compete to impress two iconic judges and battle their way to be crowned champion Star Baker. Each with their own stories to tell, the musical promises to be a heart-warming journey as the contestant’s face trials, tribulations and baking failures along the way.

The production has the full support of the TV show’s producers, Love Productions, and is produced by Mark Goucher.
