& Juliet reveals complete Broadway cast

The producers of & Juliet have announced the full cast for the Broadway production of the show.

& Juliet starts on Broadway on 28 October 2022, and officially opens on 7 November at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

The news comes following the announcement last week of the closure of the West End production of the show, with & Juliet at the Shaftesbury Theatre closing on 25 March 2023.

The Broadway cast of & Juliet includes previously announced Lorna Courtney (West Side Story, Dear Evan Hansen) as Juliet, Tony winner Paulo Szot as Lance, Tony nominee Stark Sands as Shakespeare, Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Justin David Sullivan as May, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, Philippe Arroyo as Francois, and original West End cast member Melanie La Barrie as Nurse.

New cast announced today include Brandon Antonio, Michael Iván Carrier, Nico DeJesus, Nicholas Edwards, Virgil Gadson, Bobby “Pocket” Horner, Joomin Hwang, Megan Kane, Alaina Vi Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Joe Moeller, Brittany Nicholas, Veronica Otim, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe, and Rachel Webb.

The Broadway debut follows the show’s North American premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. The show will also have a UK tour, and is opening at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne.

The London production currently stars Olivier Award winners Miriam-Teak Lee as Juliet and Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway, plus Oliver Tompsett as William Shakespeare, Tom Francis as Romeo, Malinda Parris as Angelique, the Nurse, Nicolas Colicos as Lance, Billy Nevers as Francois and Joe Foster as May.

The show features the music of songwriter Max Martin, with many of hits written for Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande, included such as  Baby One More Time, Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), Love Me Like You Do, Confident, It’s My Life, Can’t Feel My Face and the roof-raising Roar. The show’s book is written Schitt’s Creek writer and Emmy winner David West Read.

The Broadway production of & Juliet will have the same creative team as the UK, with direction by Luke Sheppard, choreography from Jennifer Weber, set design by Soutra Gilmour and costume design by Paloma Young. The music is arranged by Tony and Grammy Award-winning orchestrator Bill Sherman, and casting is by Stephen Kopel and Carrie Gardner.

Director Luke Sheppard is also directing Rob Madge in My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?), which comes to the Garrick Theatre from 21 October 2022.

Producers for & Juliet on Broadway are Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson and Martin Dodd, with Eva Price serving as executive producer.
