& Juliet announces West End closure at the Shaftesbury Theatre

West End musical & Juliet at the Shaftesbury Theatre has posted its closing notices.

The last performance will be on 25 March 2023, after over three years in the West End.

The show announced a new cast in August, with Nicolas Colicos joining the show as Lance, Billy Nevers as Francois and Joe Foster as May. They joined Olivier Award winners Miriam-Teak Lee as Juliet and Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway, plus Oliver Tompsett as William Shakespeare, Tom Francis as Romeo, and Malinda Parris as Angelique, the Nurse.

& Juliet was scheduled to run until September 2023 at the Shaftesbury Theatre, but will now close at the end of March, ahead of a UK tour. New productions of & Juliet are also slated to open at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York, at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, and in Europe. 

The Broadway production starts on 28 October 2022 following a North American premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. It will star Lorna Courtney (West Side Story, Dear Evan Hansen) as Juliet, and original UK cast member Melanie La Barrie as Nurse, plus Tony winner Paulo Szot as Lance, Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Stark Sands as William Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as May, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, and Philippe Arroyo as Francois.

The show features the music of songwriter Max Martin, with many of hits written for Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande, included such as  Baby One More Time, Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), Love Me Like You Do, Confident, It’s My Life, Can’t Feel My Face and the roof-raising Roar.

& Juliet is directed by Luke Sheppard, with a book by David West Read (Schitt’s Creek), choreography from Jennifer Weber, set design from Soutra Gilmour and costume design by Paloma Young. The music is arranged by Tony® and Grammy Award-winning orchestrator Bill Sherman.
