West End superstar Beverley Knight is set to return to ITV’s primetime singing competition Starstruck.
Country music icon Shania Twain is also set to join the panel of judges for season 2, replacing Sheridan Smith.
Other regular judges returning to the show are Adam Lambert and Jason Manford, plus Olly Murs will host again.
Starstruck sees ordinary people with exceptional talents team up to transform themselves into some of the world’s biggest music stars. Four teams of three fight it out each week to get voted in by the judging panel and an audience – all for a coveted place in the final and chance to win £50,000.
Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning at ITV said about Season 2: “Shania is one of the all time music greats, not to mention a fabulous personality, so it’s an honour to welcome her to the Starstruck panel alongside Adam, Beverley, Jason and of course Olly at the helm”.
Producer of the show, Cat Lawson, creative director of Remarkable Entertainment, said: “We are over the moon to welcome music legend Shania Twain to our fantastic Starstruck panel. She is an absolute trailblazer who has collaborated with everyone from Elton John to Harry Styles. Shania will bring so much fun to our Saturday nights – we simply cannot wait.”
Sheridan Smith is set to star in a one-woman play early next year and won’t be joining season 2. ITV said in a statement earlier this month that: “We would have loved Sheridan to have returned to the show but she has sadly had to decline due to scheduling conflicts with a new acting project. The team absolutely loved working with her, she was a fantastic judge and provided some invaluable feedback to the contestants. We wish her all the best.”
The season 1 finale saw Rob Lea as Freddie Mercury, Rachael Hawnt as Cher, Anastasia Baker as Tina Turner, Frankie Madden as Billie Eilish, and Keeley Smith as Barbra Streisand, with Rachael Hawnt taking home the big prize as Cher.
Starstruck will return to ITV and ITVX in 2023.
