West End star Carrie Hope Fletcher (Cinderella) is to make her pantomime debut this Christmas in Sleeping Beauty at The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury.
Written and directed by Paul Hendy, the show opens on 25 November 2022, and runs until 8 January 2023.
The Marlowe has good panto form, having won Best Pantomime and Best Director (for Paul Hendy) at The Pantomime Awards 2022.
Hope Fletcher will play villain Carabosse in the show. Winner of four Whats On Stage Awards, her theatre credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, which closed in June 2022; The Caucasian Chalk Circle (Rose Theatre), Les Misérables: The Concert (Gielgud Theatre, West End) and Heathers (Theatre Royal Haymarket, West End), The Addams Family (UK Tour), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (UK Tour) and War of the Worlds (UK Tour). She will also star in a concert performance of new musical Treason at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane this August, 22 – 23.
Carrie is also a major influencer, with a strong and dedicated following on YouTube and Instagram, and also a successful author.
Carrie Hope Fletcher said: “I’m so excited. I didn’t see a panto until I was 19, that was my first experience of panto. I love it so much. I love how out there they are, I love that they use songs that everyone knows, I love all of the outlandish characters and I love the audience participation. The fact that I was asked to play the villain was a very, very big draw for me. Wednesday Addams was probably the closest I ever got to playing a villain and I really enjoyed playing a slightly darker character and so just playing an outright villain is going to be so much fun. I don’t think I’ve ever looked forward to being booed before!”
Other cast include actor, TV star and Strictly Come Dancing champion Ore Oduba, who will be playing Prince Orlando; Jennie Dale, who is best known for playing Captain Captain in the hit CBeebies TV series Swashbuckle; Ben Roddy as the Dame; and Comedian and ventriloquist Max Fulham.
