At the Grammy awards ceremony last night, Sunday 3 April 2022, in Las Vegas, an all-star cast performed a tribute to musicals legend Stephen Sondheim.
Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Ben Platt, and Rachel Zegler sang a medley of Sondheim’s popular hits including Merrily We Roll Along and West Side Story.
Each of the performers were nominated for a Grammy this year. Ben Platt opened the tribute by singing “Not A Day Goes By” from Merrily We Roll Along; and then Cynthia Erivo and Leslie Odom Jr. followed with a duet of “Send in the Clowns” from A Little Night Music. Finally Rachel Zegler joined them on stage, singing “Somewhere” from West Side Story, in which she starred in the recent movie musical directed by Steven Spielberg. All four finished the song as an ensemble.
