A glorious revival of this powerful and poignant new musical

Jason Robert Brown’s award-winning musical, The Last Five Years, returns to London’s West End for the first time in over ten years, after two sensational sell-out seasons at Southwark Playhouse.

This emotionally powerful and poignant story of two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, is underscored by a beautifully bittersweet score, featuring ‘I’m Still Hurting’, ‘Goodbye Until Tomorrow’ and ‘I Can Do Better Than That’.

The Last Five Years tickets are booking until 17 October 2021 at the Garrick Theatre, London.

What is The Last Five Years about?

As aspiring author Jamie gets the book deal of his dreams, actress Cathy struggles to get work and make sense of the way her career has turned out. Can a couple once united by their dreams stay connected as their paths begin to divide?

Known for its unique structure, The Last Five Years sees their stories told in opposite directions; Jamie moving forwards and Cathy backwards through their relationship, meeting only briefly for a moment in time as their stories cross.

Who is in The Last Five Years London cast?

The cast of The Last Five Years London revival stars Molly Lynch (Sweeney Todd, ENO; Sunset Boulevard, UK tour; The Light in The Piazza, Royal Festival Hall) as Cathy and Olly Higginson (The Haystack, Hampstead Theatre, Maggie & Ted, White Bear Theatre; Napoleon Blown Apart, Arcola Theatre) as Jamie. They will be accompanied by a four-piece band.

News about The Last Five Years

West End transfer confirmed for ‘The Last Five Years’
West End transfer confirmed for ‘The Last Five Years’
Jonathan O'Boyle's production of The Last Five years will transfer to the Vaudeville Theatre in London's West End this September. Jason Robert Brown's emotionally powerful musical is about a couple who fall in and out of love over five years. The musical’s unconventional structure unfolds as Cathy, a struggling actor, tells her story in reverse, whilst Jamie, a literary prodigy, tells his story chronologically from the spark of their initial meeting. In the musical, the two characters meet only once, at their wedding, which falls in the middle of the show. Boyle's actor-musician production of the award-winning musical has the actors - played by Mollie Lynch and Oli Higginson - on stage at all times and playing the piano to add a new narrative dimension to the story, accompanied by a four-piece band. The show has had two successful runs at Southwark Playhouse receiving 4-star reviews from The Stage, Time Out, The Independent and f-stars from WhatsOnStage which called it 'the definitive production' and you should 'beg, borrow or steal a ticket!'. Musical director is Leo Munby. Producer Katy Lipson said of the production, "I could never have dreamed of having the opportunity to bring this show into London's West End this year after our off-West End and digital outings last year. It will be our company’s West End musical debut and I am incredibly proud that it is with this production.” Boyle said "Seeing the production grow, and the brilliant actors go from strength to strength, was a total joy during 2020. The fact that we now get to share it with a wider audience this autumn is tremendously exciting.” Mollie Lynch in The Last Five Years, Southwark Playhouse ©Pamela Raith Boyle has just been announced as the new ArtsEd Director of the School of Musical Theatre. His work includes James Graham's political drama This House, Cruel Intentions, Rain Man, The View Upstairs, Pippin and Aspects of Love. The Last Five Years will run from 17 September 2021 until 13 October 2021 at the Vaudeville Theatre, London. The Last Five Years tickets are now available.
