The RSC has released new images of the world premiere of Game of Thrones: The Mad King, a new play based on the novels by George R. R. Martin. The production runs at the Stratford-upon-Avon venue until Saturday 5 September 2026

The Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens take the stage in the world premiere of Game of Thrones: The Mad King at the RSC. The new play, adapted from the iconic novel series by George R. R. Martin by Duncan Macmillan, sees the world of Westeros take centre stage.

The play is set in the final years before the events of the novel and subsequent television series, following the growing unease at the blood-thirsty actions of the realm’s merciless Mad King.
