Oscar and Olivier Award-winning actor Mark Rylance is set to star in Tartuffe (Remixed) at the Marylebone Theatre in London. The reimagining of Moliere’s classic comedy begins performances in September.
Running for a strictly limited 7-week season, Tartuffe (Remixed) will star Rylance as the titular character, Tartuffe, a con artist who puts on a ruse in an attempt to infiltrate a wealthy family.
Joining Rylance in the cast are Sara Mokonen (The Jungle), Black British Theatre Award nominee Christopher Mbaki (Before I Go) and Morenike Onajobi (Taming Who?). The cast also features actors Nakeba Buchanan, Craig Blake (The Harder They Come), and Blanche Williams.
Award-winning Sierra Leonean storyteller and actor Usifu Jalloh (The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives) also joins the cast.
On this exciting new production, Mark Rylance said: “Darren’s genius for language and humour guarantees this will be a Tartuffe like no other. Our early rehearsals have been hilarious. The mix of a corrupt English missionary in a contemporary Nigerian–Jamaican family culture is bringing out the authentic cadence and revolutionary meaning of this classic play.”
Cast and creatives for Tartuffe (Remixed)
This reimagined version of Moliere’s Tartuffe follows the outspoken Afolabi–Williams family as they gather in preparation for a wedding. When Tartuffe, a charismatic man of God, takes up residence in the family home, old wounds reopen, loyalties are tested, and faith itself becomes a battleground.

In addition to writer and director Darren Raymond, the creative team includes set and costume design by ULTZ (Jerusalem, Much Ado About Nothing) and lighting design by Simisola Majekodunmi (Relics, Jaja’s African Hair Braiding).
Intermission Youth
Director Darren Raymond is also the Artistic Director of Intermission Youth and Intermission Ensemble. Intermission Youth is an independent charity which transforms the lives of young people facing socio-economic barriers through drama, Shakespeare and holistic support. Intermission Ensemble is the charity’s professional performance company.
Graduates of the Ensemble are professional artists who have gone on to perform on stage and screen including Shakespeare’s Globe, The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and The National Theatre. Notable graduates include Tosin Cole (Supacell), Mark Akintimehin (For Black Boys…), Aaliyah James and Baba Oyejide (Topboy).
Tartuffe (Remixed) cast members Morenike Onajobi, Christopher Mbaki and Sara Mokonen all graduated from Intermission Youth.
