New production images have been released for Tartuffe (Remixed), Darren Raymond’s bold reimagining of Molière’s classic, following its press night at the Marylebone Theatre. Mark Rylance stars as the smooth-talking Pastor Terrance Blake, opposite Suzette Llewellyn, Usifu Jalloh and Sara Mokonen.

Take a first look inside Tartuffe (Remixed), Darren Raymond’s audacious new production relocating Molière’s 1664 satire of religious hypocrisy into a contemporary Nigerian-Jamaican household. The production opens tonight at the Marylebone Theatre, and plays a strictly limited seven-week season until 24 October 2026.

Mark Rylance stars as Pastor Terrance Blake, the charming, manipulative man of God who inveigles his way into the trust of patriarch Oga, played by Usifu Jalloh, and very nearly makes off with his family’s fortune. He is joined by Suzette Llewellyn as Grandma, Blanche Williams as Great Grandma and Sara Mokonen as Adanna.

The images capture the full colour and warmth of Raymond’s production. Mark Rylance’s Pastor Blake, resplendent in a deep burgundy agbada and coral beads, is pictured beaming on the phone beside an elaborate gold-tiered wedding cake — the picture of a man thoroughly at home in a family that isn’t his own.

Elsewhere, Suzette Llewellyn’s Grandma and Blanche Williams’s Great Grandma dance together in matching gold lace and towering geles, while a sharper, more confrontational image finds Rylance’s collar-wearing Pastor Blake nose to nose with Llewellyn’s Grandma across a bar, the first cracks in his charm offensive beginning to show.

About the play

Tartuffe (Remixed) keeps Molière’s rhyming couplets intact while remixing them with spoken word, live music and the rhythms of contemporary Black British and diaspora culture. Written and directed by Darren Raymond, founder of the charity Intermission Youth, the production draws much of its company from the charity’s own graduates, with Rylance ( a long-time Intermission Youth trustee) sharing the stage with performers he has helped train.

The creative team includes movement and additional creatives yet to be confirmed for this listing.
