A major new adaptation of Molière’s comedy Tartuffe is coming to Marylebone Theatre in London in autumn 2026, starring Oscar winner Mark Rylance.
Tartuffe (Remixed) is playing a limited season in London, with autumn dates at Marylebone Theatre to be announced.
The new contemporary adaptation is written and directed by Darren Raymond, winner of the Sam Wanamaker Award 2025.
Darren Raymond is also a playwright and Artistic Director of award-winning drama charity Intermission Youth and its graduate arm Intermission Ensemble.
Tartuffe (Remixed) promises to be a deliciously biting comedy, relocated to an African-Caribbean household.
Sir Mark Rylance (Jerusalem, Bridge of Spies) will star as Tartuffe, alongside the Intermission Ensemble, the graduates of Intermission Youth, the award-winning drama charity for which Rylance has long served as a trustee and advocate.
The wider creative team will include Olivier Award-winning set and costume designer ULTZ, who worked with Mark Rylance on Jerusalem and Much Ado About Nothing.
Tartuffe (Remixed) is a co-production between Marylebone Theatre and producers Patrick Myles and David Luff, who recently produced Dr Strangelove in the West End, and are currently producing The Price at Marylebone Theatre starring Henry Goodman.
Darren Raymond said in a statement that the production will be “a massive nod to the next generation”, and that the show will act as “a tangible bridge between a stalwart of the stage and the young talent he has spent years mentoring.”
Mark Rylance said that “Darren’s genius for language and humour guarantees this will be a Tartuffe like no other.”
Mark Rylance returns to Marylebone Theatre following Venus and Adonis in 2024.
