A West End revival of Peter Shaffer’s acclaimed drama Amadeus is coming to the West End in spring 2027, starring Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells.
Amadeus will play at the West End’s Noel Coward Theatre for a limited 16 week run from 17 April to 7 August 2027.
Michael Sheen stars as Salieri and Callum Scott Howells as Mozart in the play, which returns to London for the first major revival in over a decade.

An award-winning creative team
The production is directed by multi-Olivier Award-winning Jeremy Herrin (Guess How Much I Love You?, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold), and will premiere at Cardiff’s New Theatre from 9 to 27 March 2027 ahead of the West End.
Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, Good Omens, Nye, Our Town) stars as embittered court composer Antonio Salieri, opposite BAFTA Cymru winner Callum Scott Howells (It’s a Sin, Cabaret) as musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Michael Sheen returns to Amadeus after being the first actor to perform both roles – as Mozart in the West End and on Broadway in 1998 and 1999, and as Salieri at the Sydney Opera House in 2022.
The wider creative team for Amadeus will include set design by Olivier Award winner Bunny Christie, costume design by Lez Brotherston, and casting by Sam Jones CDG.
“Fantastic acting talent”
Director Jeremy Herrin praised the “fantastic acting talent” leading the first major revival of the play in a decade. “Michael Sheen is a master of the stage: surely one of the world’s best,” Herrin remarked. “I can’t wait to see him go toe to toe with Callum Scott Howells, who has talent and presence to burn.”
Starring in the production marks a full-circle moment for Michael Sheen, who expressed his pride in the collaboration, stating: “To play Salieri opposite a fellow Welshman as Mozart – a role that has meant so much to me – feels very special indeed.” He added that bringing the production to both Cardiff and London is an “important next step” for the Welsh National Theatre.
Amadeus is produced by Second Half Productions and Welsh National Theatre, led by Michael Sheen.
