Acclaimed fringe festival Shedinburgh will return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer before transferring to London for its first-ever residency at The Young Vic.

Produced by Francesca Moody Productions (Fleabag, Baby Reindeer), the festival is set to take place in Edinburgh from 7 to 30 August 2026, with the London season following at The Young Vic’s Maria Studio from 19 September to 10 October 2026.

Expanded & relocated for 2026

Launched in 2025 as a purpose-built venue, this year Shedinburgh is moving to Assembly Checkpoint in partnership with Assembly Festival. The 2026 programme will be even bigger than in 2025, with over 70 shows across theatre, comedy, and music.

Initial highlights of the 2026 Shedinburgh programme include:

  • Forest Fringe: Making a highly anticipated return after 10 years with a two-day programme of experimental theatre and live art.
  • Birmingham Hippodrome’s New Musical Theatre: A two-day showcase of fresh musical theatre, following their 2025 hit Hot Mess – which is returning to London this summer at The Other Palace.

The London residency will feature a curated selection of 40 shows, bringing the best of the fringe to London.

Shed Originals & script development

Continuing its mission to support new writing, the festival’s Shed Originals programme has expanded. This year, it partners with four leading venues – Abbey Theatre (Dublin), Theatr Clwyd (Wales), Lowry (Salford), and Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh) – to provide mid-career artists with paid development time, culminating in work-in-progress sharings in both Edinburgh and London.

Producer Francesca Moody emphasised the importance of supporting small-scale work during a challenging time for the arts:

“Shedinburgh is creating pathways and space for artists to take risks in a supported environment. Without work at this scale, we wouldn’t have Fleabag, Baby Reindeer, or Six. With dwindling arts funding, this residency is a statement of intent that small-scale work deserves a stage outside of Edinburgh.”

The Young Vic Theatre’s Artistic Director and CEO, Nadia Fall, also welcomed the festival to its new London home:

“The wooden Tardis of the Shedinburgh will be landing at the Young Vic this September and we couldn’t be more excited to have the best of the fringe festival in London town.”
