The much-loved stage adaptation of Stick Man, based on the bestselling children’s book by Julia Donaldson with illustrations by Axel Scheffler, will return to London this winter for its 15th annual festive season.
Produced by Freckle Productions, the family favourite will once again play at Bloomsbury Theatre from Thursday 3 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, continuing a Christmas theatre tradition that has delighted thousands of families each year.
A Festive Adventure for the Whole Family
Since its stage debut, Stick Man has become one of the UK’s most popular Christmas theatre shows for families, bringing Julia Donaldson’s beloved rhyming story vividly to life on stage.
The story follows Stick Man, who lives happily in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their three stick children. What begins as a simple morning jog soon turns into a series of unexpected adventures. Mistaken for a dog’s toy, used by a swan to build a nest and even thrown onto a fire, Stick Man must find his way back home through a string of chaotic encounters.
As winter approaches, one question remains: will Stick Man make it back to the family tree in time for Christmas?
Freckle Productions’ lively stage adaptation combines puppetry, songs, live music and playful physical comedy, creating a fast-paced theatrical experience designed for audiences of all ages.
Celebrating 15 Years in London
The 2026 season marks an important milestone for the production, celebrating 15 years of festive performances in London.

From Page to Stage
Julia Donaldson is one of the world’s most successful children’s authors, known for internationally loved stories including The Gruffalo and Zog.
Her books created with illustrator Axel Scheffler have sold more than 75 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over 100 languages.
Stick Man has been translated into 23 languages and remains a global bestseller. In 2015 the story was adapted into a BBC animated film, featuring an all-star voice cast including Martin Freeman, Jennifer Saunders and Hugh Bonneville. The film continues to be a Christmas television favourite in the UK.
The stage show is directed by Mark Kane with original direction by Sally Cookson (A Monster Calls, Old Vic Theatre), design by Katie Sykes, lighting by Elanor Higgins music by Benji Bower and musical direction by Brian Hargreaves.
Casting for the production will be announced later this year.
