Nominations announced for the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards including Hamnet

Hamnet scores 11 nominations including Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson & Chloé Zhao

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominations for its forthcoming EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026.

The nominations were announced today in London by actors Aimee Lou Wood and David Jonsson.

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday 22 February 2026, and broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

BAFTA nominations – The highlights

46 films have received nominations this year, with One Battle After Another starring Leonardo DiCaprio scoring the most nominations with 14.
Close behind is Sinners with 13 nominations, and Hamnet and Marty Supreme, both with 11 nods.
Hamnet is up for Best Film and Outstanding British Film, with Chloé Zhao nominated for best director, Jessie Buckley for best actress, Paul Mescal for best supporting actor, Emily Watson for best supporting actress, and Max Richter for original score.
Other films with multiple nominations include Frankenstein and Sentimental Value with 8 each; I Swear and Bugonia with 5 each; and The Ballad of Wallis Island, Pillion and F1, each with 3 nominations.
Wicked: For Good, the second of the Wicked films starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, received two nominations.

The nominees for the EE Rising Star Award, presented annually to a performer who has demonstrated exceptional talent early in their careers, were announced on 14 January as Archie Madekwe, Chase Infiniti, Miles Caton, Posy Sterling, and Robert Aramayo. The winner is voted for by the British public.

More about Hamnet: Chloé Zhao’s new film version of Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel Hamnet is out now in cinemas. The movie stars Jessie Buckley as Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, played by Paul Mescal; Emily Watson as Mary Shakespeare; Shakespeare’s son, Hamnet, played by Jacobi Jupe, with his real-life brother Noah Jupe (Romeo & Juliet) as Hamlet in the stage sequences of the film.

Last week saw rival awards the Oscars announce their nominations, including a record-breaking 16 nominations for Sinners, and Hamnet receiving 8 nominations including Jessie Buckley for best actress.

Earlier this month, Jessie Buckley scored a best actress gong at the Golden Globe Awards, a usual indicator of Oscar and BAFTA success.
