The London premiere of new musical A Mirrored Monet is coming to the West End in 2026.
A Mirrored Monet is premiering at Charing Cross Theatre in London, playing from 15 March to 9 May 2026.
The show is based on the letters and diaries of famous French painter Claude Monet, and his world of artists and writers of France’s Belle Epoque era.
The show boasts songs by Carmel Owen (ASYLUM: The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln), and is directed by Christian Durham (Waiting for Godot, Fly More Than You Fall).
The cast is led by award-winning actor Jeff Shankley (Starlight Express, Cats) as Claude Monet in 1916, with Dean John-Wilson (Your Lie in April: The Musical, Aladdin) as the artist in his youth.
Completing the cast are John Addison (Pretty Woman, Titanic) as Leroy, Brooke Bazarian (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sondheim Unplugged) as Camille Doncieux, Natalie Day (Grease, To Wong Foo The Musical) as Blanche/Suzanne, Ritesh Manugula (My Fair Lady, Shirley) as Bazille, Sam Peggs (Oliver!, Les Misérables) as Renoir, Aaron Pryce-Lewis (Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables) as Manet, and Steven Serlin (Here we Are, Shining in Misery) as Marquis.
What’s the story of A Mirrored Monet? Set in Paris in 1916, the painter Claude Monet struggles to complete his government commission, The Water Lilies, his greatest work. To him the painting means regular deliveries of food, fuel, wine, and cigarettes – hard to find during the war. Suffering a creative block, he goes back to his young artist days in late 19th century Paris with his compatriots Renoir, Manet, and his model and first wife, Camille Doncieux.
Understudies are Meg Matthews as Understudy Camille, Blanche / Suzanne; Nick Bligh as Understudy Old Monet & Marquis; and Samuel Haughton as Understudy Leroy, Renoir, Bazille, Manet / Durand-Ruel.
A Mirrored Monet was developed and presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2023, after a script reading at the Dramatists’ Guild Foundation in New York City in 2022.
