A Mirrored Monet – London 2026

A Mirrored Monet is a brand-new dramatic musical making its London premiere at Charing Cross Theatre. Inspired by the letters and diaries of Claude Monet and his contemporaries, this moving new production explores the artist behind one of the world’s most beloved masterpieces, The Water Lilies.

Award-winning actor Jeff Shankley (Starlight Express, Cats) stars as Claude Monet in his later years, with Dean John-Wilson (Your Lie in April: The Musical, Aladdin) portraying the artist in his youth.

Written by composer, lyricist and dramatist Carmel Owen (Asylum: The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln) and directed by Christian Durham (Waiting for Godot, Fly More Than You Fall), A Mirrored Monet blends historical insight with emotional storytelling.

A Mirrored Monet musical

Set in Paris, 1916, the musical follows Claude Monet during a period of personal, artistic and political turmoil. As the First World War closes in, Monet struggles to complete The Water Lilies — a commission that will define his legacy and determine his survival, with food and essential supplies dependent on its completion.

Plagued by creative block and failing health, Monet retreats into memory, revisiting his formative years alongside fellow artists Renoir and Manet, and recalling his great love and muse, Camille Doncieux. Through music, projection and drama, the production immerses audiences in the cafés, studios and salons of Belle Époque Paris, bringing Monet’s inner world vividly to life.
