Mega-hit Broadway play John Proctor is the Villain has sold out the Royal Court Theatre in London, two months before the show is set to open.

John Proctor is the Villain starts previews at the Royal Court Theatre on 20 March, and runs until 25 April 2026.

The speed of the sell-out has led to renewed rumours about a West End transfer for the play, particularly as the Royal Court is co-producing with a heavyweight list of West End and Broadway producers including Wessex Grove, Sonia Friedman Productions, Wagner Johnson Productions, Runyonland and John Mara Jr.

Despite the show’s sold-out status, it was announced today that 2,000 tickets will be made available to under-35s at £25 through TimeOut London.

Written by Kimberly Belflower and directed by Danya Taymor (The Outsiders), the pair are reuniting for the London production, which is a bitingly funny, and award-winning take on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

Casting for the Royal Court is to be announced. However, the full creative team is confirmed, with most of the key creatives having worked on the original Broadway production.

The creative team includes Scenography by AMP featuring Teresa Williams; Costume Designer Sarah Laux; Lighting Designer Natasha Katz; Sound Designer & Original Composition Palmer Hefferan; Projection Design Hannah Wasileski; Hair & Make-up Design J. Jared Janas; Movement Director Tilly Evans-Kreuger; Voice & Dialect Coaching Gigi Buffington; Dramaturg Lauren Halvorsen; Casting Director Julia Horan, CDG; Production Manager Marius Rønning; Lead Producer – for Impossible Producing Charlie Bunker; Lead Producer Jack Farrell; Executive Producer Steven Atkinson; and Casting Associate Saffeya Shebli.

In John Proctor is the Villain, five young women running on pop music, optimism, and fury are about to shed light on the darkest secrets in their small town, in this story about girlhood, power, and questioning the narratives we’ve been taught.

John Proctor is the Villain was nominated for 7 Tony Awards in the 2025 Broadway season, including Best Play, and Best Actress in a Play for Stranger Things star Sadie Sink (Romeo and Juliet) as Shelby Holcomb. The Broadway production also starred Gabriel Ebert, Fina Strazza, and Amalia Yoo.

John Proctor is the Villain is playing at the Royal Court from 20 March to 25 April 2026.
