The Young Vic has announced casting for a rare revival of Arthur Miller’s psychological thriller Broken Glass.
Directed by Olivier Award nominee Jordan Fein (Fiddler on the Roof) the show will star Pearl Chanda, Juliet Cowan, Eli Gelb and Alex Waldmann.
Set in Brooklyn in 1938 amid the rise of fascism in Europe, Broken Glass follows Sylvia Gellburg, a woman profoundly shaken by violent anti-Jewish attacks unfolding abroad. As her obsession with the news deepens, she develops a mysterious paralysis that forces her and her husband to confront painful truths about fear, identity and their fractured marriage.
Eli Gelb will play Phillip Gellburg, following his Tony Award-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning performance as Grover in Stereophonic on Broadway and in the West End.
Pearl Chanda, recently seen in the title role of Hedda at the Orange Tree Theatre and as Magdalena in The House of Bernarda Alba at the National Theatre, stars as Sylvia Gellburg.
Juliet Cowan, known for Am I Being Unreasonable? and Channel 4’s Big Boys, plays Harriet; and Alex Waldmann, whose credits include Star Wars: Andor and Intimate Apparel at the Donmar and Farewell Mister Haffmann at Park Theatre, plays Dr Harry Hyman.
Further casting is to be announced.
Fein—nominated for the 2025 Olivier Award for Best Director for Fiddler on the Roof—returns to the Young Vic following his role in the acclaimed reimagining of Oklahoma!. His production of Into the Woods opens next month at The Bridge.
He said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to the Young Vic with this extraordinary company and creative team. In Broken Glass, Miller exposes the harrowing consequences of ignoring the world around you and manages to create a play that echoes through the decades.”
Rebecca Miller and Kate Miller, Trustees of the Arthur Miller Literary and Dramatic Property Trust, added: “Broken Glass is one of Arthur Miller’s late, great plays… We are delighted to see it staged by the Young Vic, with whom he personally worked closely. More recently, the Young Vic’s bold Miller revivals have gone on to captivate West End and Broadway audiences, and we are so excited to see this latest interpretation on the London stage.”
About Broken Glass
Premiering in 1994, the play went on to win the Olivier Award for Play of the Year and earn a Tony Award nomination for Best Play. This new staging marks the first major London production in 15 years and forms part of Nadia Fall’s inaugural season as Artistic Director of the Young Vic.
Fall said: “Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass feels achingly prescient… It’s a beautiful study of marriage and intimacy, of connection and the fractures between couples over time. Director Jordan Fein is an exciting talent and I can’t wait to see his modern take on this powerful play.”
Broken Glass runs from 21 February to 18 April 2026 at The Young Vic.
