Producers of the forthcoming stage adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club have teased dates for the anticipated new production.

Richard Osman’s sleuths are coming to London’s West End, in a new stage adaptation by Osman and writer and actor Tom Basden (Here We Go, Plebs, After Life, Mandy).

Matthew Byam Shaw of Playful Productions (MJ The Musical, The Artist, Moulin Rouge!), who are producing The Thursday Murder Club on stage with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, told The Times that the script is still “in development”, and will be coming to the stage sometime after autumn 2026.

There also won’t be any big names in the show, with Byam Shaw saying, “I’m not convinced it needs star names. The Thursday Murder Club is a very strong title.”

So don’t expect the stars of Netflix’s recent The Thursday Murder Club movie, including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Ben Kingsley, to be taking to the London stage.

Richard Osman first announced the new stage project on his The Rest is Entertainment podcast, co-hosted with Marina Hyde, confirming that “we started working on a Thursday Murder Club adaptation for the theatre.”

Matthew Byam Shaw from Playful Productions said last summer that: “Richard’s brilliantly crafted and ingenious books have delighted so many people. I am certain he will find unexpected and entrancing ways to introduce the characters to a theatrical audience. It makes perfect sense to bring Tom Basden into the mix after Playful worked with him on his exceptional adaptation of Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of Anarchist.”

Playful Productions produced Born with Teeth at the Wyndham’s Theatre starring Ncuti Gatwa and Edward Bluemel. Coming up, they are bringing a new production of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons to the London stage, starring Bryan Cranston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Paapa Essiedu.
