The producers of Hadestown on Broadway have announced a new cast for the show, including West End star Jack Wolfe (The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Next to Normal) as Orpheus.
Jack Wolfe will be making his Broadway debut in the show, which will also feature Disney star Morgan Dudley as ‘Eurydice,’ Grammy Award-winner Kurt Elling as ‘Hermes,’ Broadway veteran Rebecca Naomi Jones as ‘Persephone,’ and Tony Award-winner Paulo Szot as ‘Hades’.
The new cast starts at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York from 2 September 2025.
Jeffrey Cornelius and Ayla Ciccone-Burton will also join the company from September.
Jack Wolfe will not perform in Hadestown from 9 – 21 September due to a prior engagement.
This is the first full cast change of principals since the show opened on Broadway in 2019. Hadestown is now in its 6th year on Broadway, and is now in its 2nd year in the West End.
The show has also just completed a North American tour, and productions recently opened in Sydney, Melbourne, and Amsterdam.
Hadestown in New York currently stars Ali Louis Bourzgui as ‘Orpheus,’ Phillip Boykin as ‘Hades,’ Daniel Breaker as ‘Hermes,’ Lana Gordon as ‘Persephone,’ and Myra Molloy as ‘Eurydice,’ all of whom finish in the show on 31 August 2025.
They are joined by Marla Louissaint, Jessie Shelton, and Kay Trinidad as the ‘Fates.’ The chorus of ‘Workers’ is played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Timothy H. Lee, Sydney Parra, and Alex Puette. The cast includes swings Brandon Cameron, KC Dela Cruz, Max Kumangai, Alex Lugo, and Tanner Ray Wilson.
Hadestown originated as Anaïs Mitchell’s indie theatre project that toured Vermont, which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Rachel Chavkin, her artistic collaborator and director of the show, Hadestown was then transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.
The show follows two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — and invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
Hadestown in London currently stars Desmonda Cathabel (Disney’s Aladdin), Dylan Wood (No Love Songs), Victoria Hamilton-Barritt (Cinderella), Chris Jarman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and Cedric Neal (Guys & Dolls).
Hadestown is now playing at the Lyric Theatre in London, booking to 15 February 2026.
