The Turbine Theatre at Battersea Power Station in London, which closed last year, has reopened as The Arches Lane Theatre.
Arches Lane Theatre aims to bring plays, musicals and play festivals from around London and the world to local audiences and visitors to Battersea Power Station.
The 100 seater performance space was previously the Turbine Theatre, run by artistic director Paul Taylor Mills, who also runs The Other Palace theatre in London.
Arches Lane Theatre is operated by KIBO Productions, led by Artistic Director Sharon Willems and Executive Director Leo Bacica, who also run Barons Court Theatre in West London.
Currently playing at the new venue is Ruthless – The Survival Of Ruth Madoff, a new play based on the life of Ruth Madoff, wife of convicted American financier and fraudster Bernie Madoff, starring Emily Swain.
Ruthless is playing at Arches Lane Theatre until 29 June 2025.
Coming up is a double-bill of Spit In My Face by Matthias Moret and Phoenix by Helen Percival, from 2 to 4 July 2025.
The Turbine Theatre closed in December 2024 with a production of The Liar, The Bitch and The Wardrobe.
At the time Taylor Mills cited a lack of investment for the closure, saying: “As the landscape of making theatre shifts, without serious investment and philanthropy, a 92-seat space just can’t work and it’s time for me to focus my efforts elsewhere.”
A spokesperson for the Battersea Power Station Development Company, who own the theatre building, also gave The Stage a statement, saying: “After five successful years of producing award-winning shows at Battersea Power Station, the operators of the Turbine Theatre have decided to close the venue. We are proud to have supported the Turbine Theatre since it opened, both financially and operationally, and we wish Paul Taylor-Mills and the rest of the Turbine Theatre team all the best for their future endeavours. We are currently looking at a number of different options for the space to complement the rest of Battersea Power Station’s cultural offering and we will update on our plans in due course.”
