The story of Cinderella (La Cenerentola)

Rossini’s Cinderella might not come with glass slippers in the usual places or a Fairy Godmother with a wand, but its heart beats with romance, resilience and reinvention.

Set in modern-day London, this sparkling new production reimagines the timeless story for a new generation. Cinderella – known here as Angelina – dreams of love and escape while caring for her self-absorbed stepsisters and domineering stepfather. Her world changes when she meets the charming Prince Don Ramiro, and a chorus of mystical ancestral spirits begin to stir fate in her favour.

From bustling broom closets to ball gowns and pumpkins with a twist, La Cenerentola proves that goodness still triumphs, even when the rules are rewritten.

This brand-new staging is helmed by International Opera Award-nominated director Julia Burbach, with Yi-Chen Lin conducting Rossini’s lively, effervescent score – bursting with wit, sparkle and emotional depth.

Leading the cast is Deepa Johnny as Cinderella (Angelina) and Aaron Godfrey-Mayes as Don Ramiro – both making their ENO debuts. They’re joined by Charles Rice as Dandini, Simon Bailey as Don Magnifico, and former ENO Harewood Artist David Ireland as Alidoro.
