A revival of Yasmina Reza’s Tony and Olivier Award-winning play ART is coming to Broadway’s Music Box Theatre this autumn.
The play will run at the Music Box Theatre in New York from 28 August 2025, officially opening on 16 September, and playing for 17 weeks until 21 December 2025.
The production will star Tony Award winner and Emmy Award winner James Corden (The Late Late Show with James Corden, One Man, Two Guvnors), Tony Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher, The Motherf**ker with the Hat), and Tony Award winner and Emmy Award winner Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother, Hedwig and the Angry Inch).
ART, which is translated from Yasmina Reza’s original play by Christopher Hampton, will be directed by Scott Ellis (Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Take Me Out).
Producer Michael Shulman said in a statement: “On behalf of my partners Adam Speers, Gavin Kalin, and myself, we are thrilled to be producing the first-ever Broadway revival of this iconic Tony-Award winning play with three iconic, award-winning actors, Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris, under the helm of the legendary Scott Ellis. Ever since I first saw the original production, it has been etched into my mind as a hysterical and moving portrayal of friendship, compromise, and the power of art to change perspectives.”
The production is billed as: “Taste. Money. Ego. And other fine arts. This sleek, sophisticated comedy is about, well, art. Come see what all the debate is about.”
The involvement of London-based Adam Speers, who is an executive producer at ATG Productions, and British producer Gavin Kalin, suggests a West End transfer may also be on the cards for the production, although this is not confirmed.
The original 1996 London production of ART at the Wyndham’s Theatre starred Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay and Ken Stott, was a critical and commercial smash, winning the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. The Broadway premiere followed in 1998 and won the Tony Award for Best Play.
Currently playing at the Music Box Theatre is Sarah Snook in The Picture of Dorian Gray, until 29 June 2025.
