Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln to star in a gripping revival of Ibsen’s classic
Simon Stone’s powerful adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea is now playing at the Bridge Theatre, starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) and Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, The Walking Dead).
In this thrilling reimagining, Stone delves into the timeless themes of desire, choice, and personal freedom. Ellida, played by Vikander, is a woman questioning her seemingly idyllic life as a doctor’s wife. When a mysterious figure from her past resurfaces, she must choose between the life she has built and the life she left behind.
The Lady from the Sea runs from 10 September – 8 November 2025 at the Bridge Theatre, London.
What to Expect
- Alicia Vikander makes her much-anticipated theatre debut in this hauntingly beautiful play, bringing her magnetic stage presence to a role she describes as deeply personal.
- Simon Stone continues his acclaimed reimagining of classic works, creating an intense, intimate experience that will resonate with contemporary audiences.
- Andrew Lincoln returns to the London stage for the first time in years, delivering a captivating performance in a role that challenges the boundaries of love and loyalty.
The Lady from the Sea is a thrilling dissection of desire, loss and rebirth for the contemporary age.
Fearful she may have settled too easily for a comfortable life married to a well-off doctor, Ellida searches for a way to break the predictable routine her existence has become. When a lover from her past appears at their remote country house, she has to choose between the life she has now built and the one she left behind long ago.
