Nick Winston to direct Mad Hatter The Musical in Toronto

New show Mad Hatter The Musical, based on the much-loved character from CS Lewis’ Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is getting a new production in Toronto, Canada.

The musical will play the Elgin Theatre in Toronto, with 2025 dates to be announced.

The Toronto production will be directed by the UK’s Nick Winston (Midnight Cowboy, Shrek The musical, We Will Rock You, Annie, Bonnie & Clyde, Burlesque), and produced by Shannon Bienvenue.

The show first launched at London’s Leicester Square Theatre in 2019, before a concert production in Montreal in 2023, and a full staging at Phoenix’s Herberger Theater Center in 2024.

Mad Hatter The Musical features book, music, and lyrics by Vincent Connor, Michael J. Polo and Victor Valdez.

Songs in the show include “In a Mood”, “Just A Memory” and “Will You Be My Wonderland”.

Lead producer Shannon Bienvenue said in a statement: “We all have something that makes us unique—our superpower. Mad Hatter The Musical is a celebration of that uniqueness, a reminder that it’s okay to be different, and an invitation to step into our power, just as Franklin does. This is more than a show; it’s a movement to unpack what it means to be human, to embrace our messiness, and to celebrate our magic”.
