At last night’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards 2024, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul won an Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics award for “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” from season three of Only Murders in the Building.

The famous songwriters shared the win with the song’s co-writers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

That win has tipped Pasek and Paul into another major awards milestone – EGOT status, whereby they have both won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award – making them EGOT winners.

19 people have previously achieved the EGOT honour through competitive awards, including Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, and earlier this year, Elton John.

Pasek and Paul’s other awards contributing to their EGOT status include a Tony and Grammy Award for Dear Evan Hansen, plus an extra Tony Award as producers of A Strange Loop on Broadway, and an Oscar for La La Land’s “City of Stars.”

Their musical Dear Evan Hansen is currently on a new tour of the UK and Ireland – book tickets here.

The writing duo also penned the songs for smash-hit movie musical The Greatest Showman, which is currently in development by Disney as a major new stage musical.
