Hollywood’s Adam Driver (Star Wars, Girls, House of Gucci) is set to star in a new production of Kenneth Lonergan’s play Hold on to Me Darling this autumn in New York.
The production will be directed by Neil Pepe, and play for 13 weeks at the Off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Additional casting is to be announced.
In the play, country music icon Strings McCrane (Adam Driver) learns of his mother’s death and goes into an existential tailspin. He decides that the only way out is to give up stardom to find the simple life, moving back to his Tennessee hometown. However, the simple life turns out to be anything but in this acclaimed tragicomedy.
Adam Driver is no stranger to the stage, having made his Broadway debut in Mrs. Warren’s Profession in 2010. His other Broadway stage credits include Man and Boy, and Burn This, for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Tony Award.
Joining Neil Pepe in the creative team will be scenic design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Suttirat Larlarb, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by David Van Tiegham, and casting by Telsey Casting. The general managers are Wagner Johnson Productions.
Hold on to Me Darling is playing at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York from 24 September 2024.
The news came out ahead of another high-profile, star-studded New York announcement: Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are starring in Waiting for Godot, in a new production directed by Jamie Lloyd on Broadway in 2025.
