Full casting has been announced for new movie-to-stage musical The Devil Wears Prada, coming to the West End’s Dominion Theatre in October 2024.
Already announced are American stage and screen star Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty, City of Angels) as Runway magazine’s fierce editor Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep in the movie; and Olivier Award-winner Matt Henry (Kinky Boots, The Drifters Girl) as Nigel, her trusted fashion expert, played by Stanley Tucci in the film.
They will be joined by Georgie Buckland (Shrek the Musical, Bedknobs and Broomsticks) as Andy, a journalist and the newbie assistant to Miranda played by Anne Hathaway in the movie; and Amy Di Bartolomeo (Six The Musical, We Will Rock You) as Miranda’s extremely efficient chief assistant Emily, played in the film by Emily Blunt.
James Darch (Mamma Mia!) will play devious journalist Christian, and Rhys Whitfield (The Phantom of the Opera) is starring as Andy’s boyfriend Nate.
Musical theatre star Debbie Kurup (FANGIRLS, The Cher Show) will feature as Standby Miranda at the Dominion Theatre.
Completing the cast will be Maddy Ambus, Gabby Antrobus, Selena Barron, Pamela Blair, Robertina Bonano, Lloyd Davies, Elishia Edwards, Akeem Ellis-Hyman, Elizabeth Fullalove, Jinny Gould, Natasha Heyward, Samuel How, Luke Jackson, Liam Marcellino, Robbie McMillan, Ciro Lourencio Meulens, Gabriel Mokake, Theo Papoui, Christopher Parkinson, Eleanor Peach, Ethan Le Phong, Jon Reynolds, Harriet Samuel-Gray, Olivia Saunders, Kayleigh Thadani, Ella Valentine, Rhys Whitfield and Tara Yasmin.
The Devil Wears Prada The Musical is based on the blockbuster film and bestselling novel, and features an original score by music legend and EGOT winner Elton John (Disney’s The Lion King), lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub, and a book by Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only).
The show will be directed and choreographed by multi-Tony Award winning Broadway and West End director Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman The Musical, Kinky Boots).
The creative team will also include set design by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Gareth Owen, and casting by Jill Green CDG.
The Devil Wears Prada is based on Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling novel and the much-loved 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, a titan of the fashion industry and editor in chief of fashion magazine Runway, with Anne Hathaway as Andrea “Andy” Sachs, a graduate who goes to New York City and lands a job as Priestly’s co-assistant, plus Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in star turns as co-assistant Emily Charlton and art director Nigel Kipling.
Currently playing at the Dominion Theatre is Sister Act The Musical, currently starring Beverley Knight, and with Alexandra Burke from 10 June. The show is playing to 31 August 2024. The Rocky Horror Show starring Jason Donovan will then play at the Dominion Theatre for a short run from 6 to 20 September 2024.
The Devil Wears Prada The Musical is playing at the Dominion Theatre from 24 October 2024.
