The Menier Chocolate Factory in South London has announced its new spring production, the UK and European premiere of Power of Sail by Paul Grellong.
The play will be directed by Dominic Dromgoole, who recently directed Anne Reid in Marjorie Prime at the Menier, and is billed as a moral thriller that investigates the thin line between hate and freedom of speech.
Power of Sail is centred on a Harvard professor who invites a controversial white nationalist to his yearly symposium, and who refuses to yield to pressure from colleagues and students.
The play is co-produced with Broadway producer Daryl Roth. Paul Grellong’s credits include TV dramas The Boys and Law & Order: SVU; and his plays include Manuscript, and Radio Free Emerson.
Joining Dominic Dromgoole in the creative team are designer Paul Farnsworth and lighting designer Oliver Fenwick, with further creatives, and casting, to be announced.
Power of Sail is playing at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 20 March to 18 May 2024.
Currently running at the Menier Chocolate Factory is their critically acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Pacific Overtures, running to 24 February 2024.
