★★★★ “Edge-of-seat entertainment” – Telegraph

Hampstead Theatre present the world premiere of Double Feature, a new play by Tony Award winning playwright and screenwriter John Logan (Red, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Gladiator, Skyfall).

These two stories splice together seamlessly, exploring the glamour – and the grit –associated with the silver screen. Where does the power in Hollywood truly sit: with the star on screen, or in the director’s chair?

The cast includes Ian McNeice (Archie, Doc Martin) as Alfred Hitchcock, Joanna Vanderham (Richard III, Othello) as Tippi Hedren, Jonathan Hyde (Titanic, A Very English Scandal) as Vincent Price, and Rowan Polonski (Shakespeare in Love) as Michael Reeves.

Directed by Jonathan Kent (Aspects of Love, Gypsy, Long Day’s Journey into Night), Double Feature runs from 8 February to 16 March 2024 at Hampstead Theatre, London.

“Art and Eros are always superimposed, don’t you find? You cannot separate the two: the model naked in supplication before the artist; the artist exposing himself in trust. The beast of creation is always erect.”

1964/1967. In a rented cottage in Suffolk, a brilliant young film director, deep in making his magnum opus, confronts the ageing star that the studio has imposed on him. Vincent Price is about to walk out on the film, and Michael Reeves’ career hangs by a thread. Across the world, in a strange simulacrum of a Suffolk cottage created on a Hollywood lot, a great director and his star are engaged in a very different sort of power-game, as Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren take time off from making Marnie for one final confrontation.
