★★★★ “A seductive debut” – Guardian

Daniel Evans directs Danny Lee Wynter’s debut play Black Superhero at the Royal Court for a limited season.

Black Superhero is a brutal, unflinching and funny portrait of one man’s life spiralling out of control, in an age where our idols are Kings and our superheroes Gods.

A talented cast includes US star Dyllón Burnside (Pose, Dahmer – Monster), Avenue 5’s Eloka Ivo, and Line of Duty’s Rochenda Sandall.

Black Superhero runs at the Royal Court Theatre in London to 29 April 2023.

The play centres on three Black queer friends. One of them, King (Dyllón Burnside), is a Black, queer movie star who has the world at his feet, one is Raheem (Eloka Ivo), an up-and-coming actor, and finally David (Lewis Brown), an actor whose career has so far only led him to working as a children’s party entertainer for his sister Syd (Rochenda Sandall).

David is in love with King. But King is a superhero.  After an unexpected encounter David plunges himself into a world of sex, drugs and hero worship in the hope of being rescued, until fantasy and reality merge with devastating consequences.
