Broadway’s ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ musical sets UK premiere for 2022

The musical stage adaptation of Mrs Doubtfire will make is UK premiere in Autumn 2022, it has been confirmed.

Mrs Doubtfire The Musical will open atManchester Opera House on 2 September playing a limited 4-week run, with its final performance on 1 October 2022. The production will be produced by Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson and is presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical. Tickets for Mrs Doubtfire go on sale Thursday 11 November.

Based on the iconic movie starring Robin Williams, Sally Field and Harvey Fierstein, the musical comedy is currently running on Broadway performing at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway, having started at with a spectacular run at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre in 2019.

So far the American production has been a huge hit with audiences, with the Seattle engagement shattering box office revenues to become the bestselling new musical in the history of The 5th Avenue Theatre. The show sold over $4.7M worth of tickets and played to more than 75,000 people in just 42 performances.

With today’s announcement, all thoughts immediately turned to a London transfer and when that might be announced. It seems the show is treading the path of other new musicals – Back To The Future The Musical, & Juliet, Ghost The Musical and Take That musical The Band – by trying out in Manchester ahead of a West End premiere.

Mrs Doubtfire is about an out-of-work actor who, after losing custody of his kids in a messy divorce, creates ​the alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire so he can stay in their lives. A hilarious and heartfelt story, the musical is written by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell and  helmed by legendary, Tony Award-winning director Jerry Zaks.

Casting for the UK premiere of Mrs Doubtfire is to be revealed.
