The new stage-to-film musical stars Ben Platt in the title role alongside big hitters Julianne Moore (Still Alice, The Hunger Games) as Evan’s mother Heidi and Amy Adams (The Woman in the Window, Being Julia) as Connor’s mom.
The much hyped film is based on the smash hit Broadway musical starring Platt in the role of Evan Hansen – he won the Tony Award for his performance. The film tells the story of the titular Evan Hansen, who is struggling through high school with social anxiety disorder. He takes advantage of the suicide of a classmate to get closer to the classmate’s family, by pretending that he was good friends with their son.
According to Universal Studios, the film tells the story of “an anxious, isolated high schooler aching for understanding and belonging amid the chaos and cruelty of the social-media age.”
The cast also features Danny Pino (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Kaitlyn Denver (Booksmart) as Connor’s dad and sister, Amandla Stenberg (The Eddy) as Alana Beck, Nik Dodani (Atypical) as Jared Kleinman, Liz Kate as Gemma, Isaac Cole Powell as Rhys and Colton Ryan as Connor.
