Oscar winner Redmayne will play Emcee, Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub – a seedy Berlin haunt in the final, care-free, anything-goes days of the Weimar Republic. Whilst Buckley, who recently appeared in Romeo & Juliet with The Crown‘s Josh O’Conner, Season 4 of Fargo, Chernobyl and Wild Rose, will play the Kit Kat Klub’s star, Sally Bowles.
Acclaimed director Rebecca Frecknall will helm the show which promises to be a reimagined production on the iconic musical. Frecknall’s breathtaking production of Tennessee Williams’s Summer And Smoke was considered a revelation at the Almeida Theatre and subsequent West End transfer at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 2019.
Rebecca Frecknall said “It’s such a privilege to have the opportunity to direct Cabaret, a show that has always been dear to my heart. It’s thrilling to be able to approach this classic and important musical at a time when its themes and atmosphere feel so contemporary and resonant. I’m in awe of my incredible creative team who have come together to create a bold new production as well as a new ‘Kit Kat Club’, a bespoke home where we can truly embrace and unlock the world of Cabaret for a new audience”.
