London’s theatre scene continues to bounce back with the announcement that The Play That Goes Wrong will resume performances at the Duchess Theatre from 18 June 2021.
Co-written by Mischief company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields the long-running comedy follows an accident prone amateur dramatic society as they attempt to stage their annual production. An award-winning, finally tuned, exquisitely acted, slap-stick comedy tour de force the show has been a continual success in the West End and abroad for the last seven years.
The long-running runner was forced to close in March 2020 due to covid, though it temporarily resumed performances in the run up to Christmas before Government restrictions were reimposed in mid-December.
Producers Kenny Wax and Stage Presence Ltd said “The shortest emotional distance between two people is a laugh. So, we’re delighted to have the chance to bring people together again. It’s going to be very emotional. In a good way.“
Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer, Company Directors of Mischief commented “We are so excited that The Play That Goes Wrong will soon be delighting audiences again. Cornley have been rehearsing on Zoom throughout lockdown and have assured us that the play is now ready and will go ahead without a hitch.”
When the show resumes the West End cast will feature Blayar Benn, Milo Clarke, Ross Green, Michael Keane, David Kirkbride and Ciara Morris. The understudies are Tom Bulpett, Oliver Clayton and Jack Michael Stacey.
For audience members with tickets for The Play That Goes Wrong performances before 18 June, their ticket provider will be in touch to re seat them for performances from 18 June 2021.
Prior to the show commencement the Duchess Theatre will host a short run of new play Cruise – an inspirational piece set in soho at the height of the aids crisis.
Other West End shows to announce their come-back in the last week including The Prince of Egypt, Les Miserables The Staged Concert, Six, Cinderella, Joseph, Drop Dead, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Frozen and Back To The Future.
The Play That Goes Wrong is booking from 18 June 2021 until 30 January 2022 at the Duchess Theatre, London.
