Casting has been announced for the upcoming online concert of new musical Treason.
The musical will feature a who’s who of London’s West End including Lucie Jones (Waitress, Legally Blonde), Cedric Neal (Chess, Motown The Musical, Back To The Future), Oliver Tompsett (& Juliet, Kinky Boots), Bradley Jaden (Les Misérables, Wicked), Rebecca LaChance (School of Rock, Beautiful) and Emmanuel Kojo (Oklahoma!, Show Boat).
Also in the cast are Daniel Boys (Falsettos, Nativity Rocks!), Waylon Jacobs (Hamilton, Memphis), Sharon Rose (Hamilton, Caroline Or Change) with Debris Stevenson (1st Luv, Poet in da Corner) as the show’s narrator.
Written by Ricky Allan and Kieran Lynn, the musical is based on the notorious 1605 Gunpowder Plot in which disaffected catholics planned to assassinate the protestant English monarch King James I, by blowing up the Houses of Parliament, and installing his 9-year-old daughter Elizabeth as a Catholic head of state. Due to occur at the State Opening of Parliament on 5 November, the plot was foiled and all the men were hunted down and sentenced to be hung, drawn and quartered.
Featuring original folk and pop songs including the numbers “Take Things Into Our Own Hands”, “The Day Elizabeth Died” and “Blind Faith”, the musical tells one of the most intriguing tales in Englands history which reverberates to this day. The thwarting of the Gun Powder plot is still celebrated on 5 November though is more commonly referred to as Bonfire Night.
The show has direction by Hannah Chissick, musical supervision by Nick Pinchbeck and orchestration by Matthew Malone.
Filmed live from Cadogan Hall, the piece will be streamed from 12 to 14 March 2021. Producers of the highly anticipated show expect to stage a full scale run in late 2021 or early next year.
