Birmingham Royal Ballet has cancelled its forthcoming production of The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall due to government restrictions of indoor events.
In a statement on the company’s site, they announced: “The government restrictions from 2 December will limit public attendance at indoor events to 1,000 people which makes it financially impossible to stage a production of this scale.”
The show was due to transfer to Birmingham Repertory Theatre from 14 – 22 December however this has been thrown into doubt with today’s government announcement that Birmingham will be placed in Tier 3 locality restrictions.
A tweet from Birmingham Royal Ballet stated they were “working hard on alternative ways in which we can bring the show to audiences.”
In line with Birmingham becoming a Tier 3 locality, we are investigating how this will affect performances of @BRB’s The Nutcracker at The REP.
