West End star David Hunter and singer/song-writer Caroline Kay have today released the cast recording of their five-star Musical Short The Space Between.
The pair wrote the musical short entirely in lockdown, having never met in person. Communicating exclusively through WhatsApp messages and voice notes, Hunter and Kay wrote, recorded, filmed and edited their 14 minute mini-Musical.
Hunter said “The Space Between was a real labour of love, we worked so hard to bring it to life – and being in lockdown offered some very unique challenges! I’m amazed at what we achieved whilst being so far apart. The reviews have been wonderful and sometimes a little overwhelming! It’s pretty terrifying reading reviews when you’re responsible for every aspect of the piece – there’s no one else to blame if the critics don’t like it! Fortunately they loved it and so did our followers! We’re so excited to be releasing the tracks online and I hope everyone will treasure them for years to come.”
The story follows a couple forced apart by lockdown and is told entirely through screen recordings of Zoom, FaceTime and WhatsApp video calls. The show remains available to view on YouTube https://youtu.be/1jMCO4shFMI
Hunter and Kay were joined in the show’s creation by Arranger Nick Barstow, Cellist Imogen Halsey and Producer Joe Davison for Auburn Jam, with poster design by Rebecca Pitt.
Hunter’s West End credits include playing Dr. Pomatter in the recently closedWaitress The Musical and as Charlie Price in Kinky Boots, both at the Adelphi Theatre, as well as the National Theatre’s production of One Man Two Guvnors starring James Corden.
Dublin born Kay has released two original EP’s Notes in 2017 and Tracks in 2019, both of which went straight to #1 in the Irish iTunes Album Charts.
The Space Between cast recording is available now across all download and streaming platforms.
