Regents Park Open Air Theatre 2020 season postponed to 2021

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s entire 2020 season has now been postponed to summer 2021.

Productions which had been due to run this year included a new musical staging of 101 Dalmatians, Romeo & Juliet and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel.

Founded in 1932, this will be the first year since 1961 that the theatre will not open.

In addition to the three reschedule productions, Dragons and Mythical Beast will run in August 2021 and the there will be further outdoor events including Jimmy Carr’s, Terribly Funny; Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year LIVE; Luisa Omielan’s God is a Woman; and, the Luna Cinema screenings of Pretty Woman and The Shining.

Artistic Director, Timothy Sheader, said:

“Whilst obviously unavoidable, it is incredibly sad that we are unable to open our theatre this summer for the first time since 1961. Our thoughts are with all those who were due to work with us this summer and our loyal audience. We are so grateful for the messages of support we have received over the past weeks and I am delighted that we have been able to reschedule all of our productions in 2021.

As a registered charity with no government funding the venue is asking for donations to help support the theatre continue its programme of work.

Ticket holders for the 2020 season will be contacted by your point of sale in due course.

The new timetable is as follows 101 Dalmatians (15 May 2021 – 20 June 2021), Romeo & Juliet (26 June 20201 – 24 July 2021), Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel (30 July 2021 – 18 September 2021) and Dragons and Mythical Beasts (10 August 2021 – 5 September 2021).
