American sleeper hit Be More Chill has announced it will play an extended booking period at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Other Palace theatre in London.
The show, which opened to wide-spread acclaim last week, will now run at the venue until 14 June 2020. The production will also become the longest running show at the venue.
Based on the groundbreaking novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill is a pop-rock, sci-fi musical that tells the story of an anxious teenager, ‘Jeremy’, who swallows a supercomputer pill named ‘The Squip’ in order to become more popular.
Like DEAR EVAN HANSEN the show appeals to a younger theatre audience and has been credited with broadening the appeal of musical theatre. The musical is written by Joe Tracz with original music and lyrics by Joe Iconis.
Speaking about the musical’s extension, the show’s composer and lyricist Joe Iconis said: “Making my London debut as a musical theatre writer has long been a dream of mine and my experience with Be More Chill at The Other Palace has exceeded all expectations. I have been blown away by the response of audiences and the theatre community here in the UK and am ecstatic that we will be extending our run.”
The cast features Scott Folan as Jeremy Heere, Blake Patrick Anderson as Michael Mell, Stewart Clarke as The Squip, Miracle Chance as Christine Canigula, Renee Lamb as Jenna Rolan and Millie O’Connell as Chloe Valentine.
Completing the cast are Eloise Davies as Brooke Lohst, Christopher Fry as Mr Heere and Mr Reyes, James Hameed as Rich Goranski, Miles Paloma as Jake Dillinger, Gabriel Hinchcliffe, Eve Norris and Jon Tsouras.
The UK production is directed by Stephen Brackett with choreography by Chase Brock, set design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Bobby Frederick Tilley, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Ryan Rumery and projection design by Alex Basco Koch.
Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Charlie Rosen and music vocal arrangements are by Emily Marshall.
Be More Chill is booking until 14 June 2020 at The Other Palace Theatre, London.
