Sean Foley will direct the UK premiere of Something Rotten! at Birmingham Repertory Theatre this Autumn.
Nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including Best New Musical, the highly anticipated musical comedy is described as ‘side-splitting and toe-tapping tribute to theatre itself’.
Set in 16th century England, the story follows brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, as they struggle to find success in the theatrical world, whilst working in the shadow of rock star playwright William Shakespeare. That is, until they come upon the idea of writing the world’s first musical!
The all-singing and all-dancing show will be choreography by Carrie-Ann Ingrouille .
Something Rotten! is written by John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick with music and lyrics by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick.
Casting for the show and a possible tour to be announced.
The production will form part of Foley’s first full season as new Artistic Director of Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Other productions in the season include new musical Breakfast On Pluto starring Fra Free; Gatsby, a new adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby directed by Maria Aberg, Noughts & Crosses, The Snowman and Nativity! The Musical.
Something Rotten! will run from 8 October 2020 until 31 October 2020 at Birmingham Repertory Theatre . An official press night will be held on 26 October 2020.
