Broadway’s smash-hit musical Dear Evan Hansen will open at the Noel Coward Theatre in November 2019.
Writing in the Daily Mail, Entertainment columnist Baz Bamigboye announced Producers for the show had confirmed Dear Evan Hansen would open at the Noel Coward Theatre in late 2019.
It was anticipated the musical would open earlier in 2019, however, Producers wanted to ensure they had the right theatre and plenty of time for casting.
Fans of the hit musical had assumed Tony Award winner Ben Platt, who originated the role on Broadway or Taylor Tench who took over from Platt might open the show in London, however, earlier this year Producer Stacey Mindich let it be known they were looking for a British person to lead the cast.
Dear Evan Hansen opened on Broadway in 2016 to widespread critical acclaim, winning a Grammy Award and six Tony Awards including Best Original Score for Benji Pasek and Justin Paul, Best Book of a Musical for Steven Levenson, and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for Ben Platt.
The show is a contemporary musical about a socially awkward teenager, who overcomes his inability to connect with people and make friends by fabricating a story about a classmate who has suddenly died.
The irresistible score is from Benji Pasek and Justin Paul – the songwriting duo behind the scores to smash-hit films La La Land and Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN is booking from 29 October 2019 until 4 April 2020 at the Noel Coward Theatre, London.
