Youtube star and Strictly Come Dancing runner-up Joe Sugg will make his acting stage debut in the London production of Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre.
Sugg’s, who has over 27 million followers across his social media platforms, will play the role of ‘Ogie’, geeky suitor to Laura Baldwin’s ‘Dawn’ from 9 September 2019. The role was originated in the West End by Jack McBrayer best known for playing Kenneth in Tina Fey’s NBC series 30 Rock and is currently played by The Inbetweeners alum Blake Harrison until 7 September 2019.
Sugg’s first found fame on YouTube creating prank, challenge and impression videos for his audience, which led to a successful graphic novel series titled Username, and a travel series with fellow YouTuber Caspar Lee.
Last year, Suggs participated in the 16th series of Strictly Come Dancing, placing in the final four with partner Dianne Buswell.
Announcing his casting, Sugg’s said: “I got to see the show a couple of months back and it’s absolutely fantastic. I’m excited to be a part of the cast and to have now landed a role in the West End really has topped off an incredible year for me.
“I hope I do everyone proud and thanks to all my supporters for making it all possible and the best year yet.”
He joins Lucie Jones, Laura Baldwin, Marisha Wallace and David Hunter in the cast of Waitress, which tells the story of Jenna, a waitress whose talent for baking might be her escape route from her controlling marriage.
Waitress is booking until 4 January 2020 at the Adelphi Theatre, London.
