Tina Turner musical extends into December 2019 with key cast staying till April 2019
The West End production of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical announced today its leading stars Adrienne Warren and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith will continue in the roles of Tina and Ike Turner until 13 April 2019.
It was also announced the musical will open a new booking period with the release of over 200,000 tickets which will take bookings at the Aldwych Theatre to 21 December 2019.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the hit bio-musical tells Tina Turner’s story from humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Set to Turner’s classic hits the show opens and ends with Tina’s record breaking concert at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Producers confirmed an original cast recording of the show is planned, and that a new cast, who will take the production into its second year in the West End from 19 March 2019 will be announced shortly.
Tina Turner said: “It is a privilege to have our show playing to full houses here in London night after night. I’m so looking forward to the release of our cast album, so we can share the music and also the way the songs tell my story.”
The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in April 2018 in London and subsequently has broken all Box Office records at the Aldwych Theatre. Next month, the German premiere of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical begins performances at the Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg and the musical will have its Broadway premiere in Autumn 2019.
The musical has choreography by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.
Ticket for the new booking period will go on sale 12noon on 25 January 2019.
