The first trailer has been released for the new West End revival of Shadowlands at the Aldwych Theatre in London starring Hugh Bonneville and Maggie Siff.
Written by William Nicholson (Gladiator), Shadowlands is now playing at the West End’s Aldwych Theatre until 9 May 2026.
The play is a moving portrait of love, loss and faith, exploring the transformative relationship between Oxford don and celebrated author of The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis, and American poet Joy Davidman.

Shadowlands stars BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-nominated Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Paddington), reprising his celebrated performance as C.S. Lewis, alongside acclaimed American TV and stage star Maggie Siff (Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, Billions) as Joy Davidman.
The cast also includes Jeff Rawle (Drop the Dead Donkey, Doc Martin, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) as Major W.H. Lewis (Warnie); Tony Jayawardena (Nye, Bend It Like Beckham The Musical) as Rev. Harry Harrington; Timothy Watson (The Archers, A Man for All Seasons, Murder on the Orient Express) as Professor Christopher Riley; and Rebecca Blackstone, Nigel Fyfe, Jemma Geanaus, Sharan Phull, Leighton Pugh, Fode Simbo, Ernest Stroud, and Giles Taylor.
The role of Douglas, Joy Davidman’s 8-year-old son, is shared by Ayrton English, Nathan Jago and Louis Wilkins.

Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Half a Sixpence, Here & Now – The Steps Musical), this production of Shadowlands was first staged at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2019. The story was also immortalised in the Oscar-nominated 1993 film starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.
