Singer Will Young will play the brand new role of band leader in Strictly Ballroom The Musical.
Best known as a singer and songwriter and the first winner of Pop Idol, he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award in 2013 for his role in the musical Cabaret.
Will Young’s previous theatre roles
Will Young is a British singer-songwriter and actor. The first winner of Pop Idol, his debut single Anything Is Possible became the fastest-selling debut single in the UK.
He was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2013, for his West End debut in the London revival of the musical Cabaret.
In addition, Will Young played the lead role in the Royal Exchange Theatre’s production of The Vortex by Noël Coward, and appeared on screen in the BBC film Mrs. Henderson Presents, starring Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins.
Will also appeared in the Marple drama The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side and guest starred in an episode of Skins in 2010.

Strictly Ballroom The Musical is based on the international hit film by Baz Luhrmann. A story of romance between a left footed ballroom dancer and a rogue champion, the unlikely couple Fran and Scott compete in the Pan Pacific Championship and ultimately defy convention.
