First look at the Olivier Awards 2018 red carpet event
The great and good of theatre land braved London’s inclemant weather yesterday to attend the UK’s most prestigious theatre awards at the historic Royal Albert Hall.
The lead cast of Lin Manuel Miranda’s London production of Hamilton were in full attendance, as were a host of stars including Patti Lupone, Chita Rivera, Bryan Cranston, Michael Sheen, Caroline O’Connor, Julian Clary, X-Factor’s Joe McElderry, Beverley Knight, Imelda Staunton, Gok Wan andRolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood.
Highlights from the evening include seven Olivier Awards for Hamilton including Best New Musical, Outstanding Achievement in Music, Best Actor in a Musical for Giles Terera and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Michael Jibson. The production also won technical awards for Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Theatre Choreographer.
Jez Butterworth’s The Ferryman collected three Olivier Awards including Best New Play, Best Director fo Sam Mendes and Best Actress in a Play for Laura Donnelly.
Shirley Henderson and Sheila Atim won Best Actress in a Musical and Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical respectively for Girl From The North Country, Conor McPherson’s musical based on the work of Bob Dylan.
