Producers of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical have released the first of three short films charting the development of the new musical.
The short film by the Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire and Searching for Sugarman), follows Phyllida Lloyd, Director of TINA, as she visits Tina Turner in Switzerland to talk about life, music and the stage.
In the short Loyd asks Tina, how she can capture the essence of Tina Turner? Whether it is the sight or sound of the rock icon that she should be looking for. Turner unequivocally responded with sound, saying “There’s always been an emotion in my singing, because it reached back to the life I was living. People knew it wasn’t Hollywood, it was real.”
The new musical charts Turner’s life from humble beginnings to legendary status as one of the worlds top performing artists. The undisputed Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll has sold over 200 million records and won 11 Grammy Awards in a life of many highs and lows.
Due to overwhelming demand and before it has even opened, the highly anticipated production has already extended the booking period 4 months at London’s Aldwych Theatre.
Phyllida Lloyd is an award winning film and theatre director. Her many credits include the world premiere of long-running musical Mamma Mia! and more recently the film, a Shakespeare Trilogy for the Donmar at King’s Cross – Henry IV, Julius Caesar and The Tempest, all of which transferred to New York, and Six Degrees of Separation, Hysteria and Wild East all for the Royal Court.
Tina – The Tina Turner Musical runs from 21 March 2018 until 20 October 2018 at the Aldwych Theatre, London.
