Tom Hollander to star in Travesties on Broadway

Tom Hollander will reprise is acclaimed role in Tom Stoppard’s Travesties when it transfers to Broadway in 2018.

Tom Stoppard’s dazzling comedy of art, love and revolution was a surprise hit at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London earlier this year, transferring to the much larger Apollo Theatre in London’s West End.

Hollander will reprise the role of Henry Carr, an elderly civil servant who reminisces about his time in Zürich during World War I. The comedy follows his interactions with Tristan Tzara during the rise of Dada, James Joyce while he was writing Ulysses and Lenin leading toward the Russian Revolution.

Patrick Marber will once again direct the production which will have its first Broadway revival since it premiered there in 1976 featuring a Tony Award-winning performance by John Wood in the role of Carr.

The London cast included Freddie Fox, Clare Foster, Forbes Masson, Peter McDonald, Amy Morgan, Sarah Quist and Tim Wallers.

Further casting has yet to be announced.

Travesties will play a limted engagement from 29 March 2018 until 17 June 2018 at the American Airlines Theatre.
